Case Studies

Some case studies of projects we have undertaken for our clients:

Desktop IPTV and VoD solution for Windows platform

Situation
Our client, a leader in IPTV hardware for the corporate and hospitality markets, required a solution for viewing IPTV broadcasts and Video on Demand streams on the desktop. Client identified two discrete customer segments, one where a solution designed as a bespoke application was preferable and a second where deployment of a bespoke software application was a stumbling block

Solution
Using our IP portfolio we successfully addressed both segments for the customer.

  • IPTV/VoD PVR application - Codevio consulted on and then developed a bespoke Windows application to receive digital TV and radio channels streamed over a network, allowing the user to view them, record them to the hard drive for later viewing and pause live television. This solution was delivered to the customer in a very short time-frame by combining some of our existing IP with a full IPTV and VoD (RTSP) stack designed to their requirements

  • IPTV/VoD plugin for Windows Media Player - in consultation with the customer we came up with an innovative solution for corporate environments where the deployment of bespoke application was not an option. The solution used our inside knowledge of the workings of the Windows Media Player product line and Microsoft's DirectShow API to deliver a solution which could be deployed as a single DLL integrating seamlessly into Media Player and embedded into web pages.

Application development for PC TV Tuner Card Manfacturer

Situation
Our client, a leading developer of digital TV products, had developed a new PCMCIA tuner card specifically for laptops, and needed a comprehensive software application to bundle with the product.

Solution
Codevio created a TV viewing and recording application from existing resources, ensuring full compatibility with the new card. Codevio also sourced, reviewed and tested a number of MPEG-2 codecs to use with the application, advising the client on the pros and cons of each codec. The chosen codec was integrated into a newly formed installer, giving the client a simple to install application, to provide with their new TV tuner card. Codevio also provided expertise, testing and debugging support to client's driver development team in the Windows BDA driver architecture

Development of Windows Media Centre showcase for AMD products

Situation
AMD, a top tier vendor in the PC processor business, required online marketing materials to showcase their AMD 'Live' brand, a new product line aimed at users of PCs running Windows Media Center. The client required a '10ft' version of their existing website that could integrate seamlessly with Windows Media Center, but did not have the relevant experience or resource to complete the new website in time for the very short deadline.
